Jade McAllister returns home to Pineyville, Tennessee to help nurse her estranged mother back to health. She's grateful her friend found her a job as an administrative assistant at Pineyville Church. That is, until she runs into Shane Calkin, the bad-boy-wannabe who broke her heart.
Shane's job as Youth Director at the church is a far cry from his high school days as the town's privileged rich kid. The death of his sister has left him with a young niece to raise and a rambunctious puppy to tame. He's not the self-centered person who once hurt Jade, and all he wants now is a second chance to love her. But how can he prove it to her?

I really wanted to love the book but just didn't feel a strong connection to the characters. They held back from each other and I felt the dialogue was stiltled. The little girl, Susie, was very cute and I enjoyed her and her antics.Product details

Mended Heart edition by Mary Manners Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Perhaps "Mended Heart" is my favorite story written by Mary Manners!
So beautiful, from beginning to end but especially the end! )
I loved this book from start to finish! The writing is poignant, the characters are captivating, the situations are realistic and Mary Manners' storytelling style is very sweet and filled with surprises.
Jade, the heroine of the story is a strong-willed soul with a soft heart that needs mending. Shane, the hero, is a bad-boy gone good. So good in fact, that he is now serving as a youth pastor which I found quite fitting given his background! Jade and Shane find that their paths keep crossing after Jade returns to town after leaving her job where she was a Kindergarten teacher. Very cautiously yet wonderfully, Jade and Shane fall in love. But first, their growing feelings for each other are tested and plot twists make it look as if the pain from the past and family secrets will be too much for their love to survive.
But "Mended Heart" is about more than falling in love, it's about forgiveness and nobody tells it better than Mary Manners, at least in this book! ) The book is worth every bit of the five-star rating and I'll recommend it as a source of encouragement to everyone I know whose heart needs mending! Bravo, Mary Manners, well done!

I absolutely loved this book. It was a clean romance with lots of feeling. Jade McAllister had left her home a decade earlier and hadn't returned until now because her mom had suffered a heart attack and needed her help to nurse her back to good health. She has been estranged from her mom for years and hated returning to the hometown where she experienced so much devastation in her life. Her dad had died when she was very young and her mom had a string of men in and out of her life and alcohol that ruled her life. She hated the time she had grown up and was treated as an outcast at school. She had one very good friend but other than that she had no one.
Shane Calkin grew up in the same town as Jade and had come from a rich, privileged life. He had been the star quarterback on the high school football team and always had girls hanging on him as part of the popular crowd. He had always admired Jade but would never let on his feelings because she would never be included in his crowd. Through some life changing circumstances, he had changed and was now a youth minister at a local church. The same church that Jade had just taken a job as a secretary at while she was helping her mom.
Would they ever be able to see each other for the changed person they had each become or would their earlier differences keep them apart? I loved their story and how they worked through their challenges and tragedies.

Mary Manners never fails to leave my heart swooning and feeling such empathy for the characters. Jade McAllister doesn't believe that Shane Calkin can truly have changed enough from their high-school days to be capable of serving as a youth director in a church. Shane's heart is determined to win Jade's heart, but will she let him? Will she allow forgiveness in her heart and believe in love?
This novel is sure to delight those who love to read Christian fiction. Jade is a caregiver to her mother, the mother she has been estranged from and now she has to put all those emotions aside to do the right thing in honoring her parents. Mary Manners is one of my favorite authors. I usually enjoy romances that have mystery or suspense attached much more than "plain, old romances" in novels.
I just can't help but rate this novel 5 stars and I would highly recommend it to those who like to cuddle up with a Christian romance.
I received an ebook of this novel from netgalley and Pelican Book Group, White Rose Publishing.
